Every sport has different needs out of a locker and locker room. When the University of Utah approached Shield about softball lockers, one of their biggest needs was how to deal with the extreme mud and rain conditions in the spring that followed players indoors after snow melt.

Our solid surface locker design was able to find solutions. Not only is solid surface the perfect material—it’s nonporous, so it won’t soak up water or dirt—but Shield designed the locker to have spaces away from wet jackets, protecting players’ valuables.

The left side of the locker houses wet items, while the right side is protected from moisture to tuck away backpacks and other items the student-athletes need to keep dry.

There’s also a padded seat to be used as a back rest.

“We finally have our dream locker room,” former Utah softball player Bridget Castro said. “It’s fully capable of everything we need to do in here.”

Shield delivered 24 solid surface lockers in April 2017. Many of the lockers are on a radius, so Shield created wedge filler pieces to make the room look complete.
